Spring into Wellness and Boost Your Horse’s Health this Spring
Posted by Equine Essentials Direct on 19th Apr 2026
Spring is a funny one.
One minute, you’re scraping mud off everything you own. The next, your horse has decided they’re an eventer again because the sun’s been out for 12 minutes.
The grass is coming through, routines are changing, and everything just feels a little bit different. It’s a lovely time of year, but it can take horses a while to catch up.
The good news is that a few small changes can make the transition easier for both of you.
Give Their Diet a Little Support
As the grass comes through, your horse’s diet naturally starts to change. Sometimes, their system needs a little extra support while they adjust.
This is where well-being supplements come in. Nothing complicated, just something to support digestion, condition or general balance while everything changes around them.
Especially if your horse has suddenly gone from “quiet all winter” to “absolutely feral on fresh grass”. Or maybe they are leaving half their feed whilst acting like they’ve never eaten before in their life!

Licks = Sanity Savers
If your horse is suddenly standing at the gate like they’ve never been fed… welcome to spring.
Licks are one of those underrated yard staples. They keep horses occupied, help top up nutrients and, most importantly, give them something to do other than redecorating the stable (or dismantling the fence).
Low effort, keeps them happy - what's not to love?

When They Suddenly Have Energy Again
More daylight usually means more riding, and occasionally a horse that’s gone from zero to “we’re doing this at speed now”.
Magnetic and massage therapy can help take the edge off, supporting muscle comfort and helping them relax after work. Perfect for easing them back into routine without that first proper ride back being a 10 minute negiotion about how legs work.

Treats. Obviously.
Let’s not pretend this isn’t a core part of horse ownership.
Whether it’s rewarding good behaviour or just bribing them to stand still for five seconds, treats are always involved. And honestly, spring is a lovely time to keep things positive while routines shift and energy levels spike.

Expect the Unexpected
More turnout + more energy = more opportunities for chaos.
Nothing major (hopefully), but it’s always the season of “where did that cut come from?”
Having a few first aid essentials to hand means you’re not scrambling when something pops up. And something always pops up.

Keep It Simple
Spring doesn’t need a full routine overhaul.
It’s just about small things, a bit of support here, a little extra care there, to help your horse settle into the season without any unnecessary drama.
And if they still act like a completely different horse overnight… well, that’s just spring. They will come round eventually.
